The Blackwater Loop

This is a 30km spin from Castlebridge to Blackwater via Curracloe.

We leave the car park and turn right into Castlebridge. We continue as far as The Oldtown Road on the outskirts of the village and we turn left. This small road takes us down to the main Curracloe Road and at the T-junction we turn left again. After a few kms we reach Curracloe Village. We carry on through the village and cycle for around 8kms until we reach Blackwater. The sea is on our right all the way to Blackwater and in Blackwater we’ll take a break for coffee/water.

After the break, we continue up out of the village and at Crosshue Crossroads we turn left. This road takes us up to the main R741 which is a busy road so we need to take care. When we reach Killahard Cross we turn left again and we cycle along this main road for 4/5kms. When we reach Ballyfarnogue, we take a right, being careful to take up the correct position on the road and to use clear hand signals.

We cycle on for a few kms until we reach Ballybeg and here we turn left. It’s a straight run of about 7/8kms from here all the way back to Castlebridge on quiet country roads.
