Heading up to Christmas, Georgina and I are teaming up to lead this, 'South of the Town Ride', with our 'break for cake' in Johnstown Castle Café. This is a gentle 30km cycle taking in several lovely villages in South Wexford.
We meet in the car park at the Meadows and Byrne Roundabout on the Rosslare Road.
We leave the car park and turn right up to the new small roundabout. We turn right here. At the Rosslare Road Roundabout we go straight for about 3kms and at Ballykelly we go right and continue along the Kilmore Road to Ballycogley and Tenacre.
At Tenacre we go right, cycling along quiet country roads into the villages of Bridgetown and then Baldwinstown. In Baldwinstown, we turn right and continue for a short distance until we reach Barnwell’s Crossroad. Here we turn right, cycling through Grascur and Sleedagh until we reach the village of Murrintown. From Murrintown, we cycle about 2kms as far as Johnstown Castle Gardens which are on our right. We will take our break, to enjoy the beautiful grounds of the Castle Estate and to sample the coffee in the café in the Castle Gardens.
Leaving the Castle Grounds, we turn right and we cycle as far as Rathaspeck (Rath an Easpaig). There’s a small roundabout in Rathaspeck where we turn right for the village of Piercestown. At the cross in the village, we turn left and continue as far as Drinagh Garden Centre where we meet the main Rosslare Road.
At the main road, we turn left and after about 2/3 kms we meet the Rosslare Road Roundabout. We take the right lane on the roundabout using hand signals and we go straight on to the little roundabout at the entrance to Meadowns and Byrne car park. Here we turn left and go left again into the car park where we complete our spin.

I live in Castlebridge in Co. Wexford and I am a keen leisure cyclist. I try to get out as often as possible and enjoy cycling mostly within my own locality. I would love to see more people out on their bikes, taking advantage of all the health and social benefits that cycling has to offer.
