We leave on the dot of 09:30, so make sure you arrive a few minutes early, for a quick bike & gear check.
Departing Decathlon from the roundabout, we head down to the lights and turn right. You may choose to use the cycle lane for the first 200 metres, but after that it becomes unfit for purpose and I prefer to share the parallel bus lane. Continuing along St. Margarets Road through two sets of traffic lights as far as the roundabout, we take the 3rd exit (effectively right) and continue out past Balseskin and the end of the airport runway. We take the 2nd exit (straight on) at the roundabout and then the 2nd left into St. Margaret's Village itself and onto some quieter roads.
We continue straight through Chapel Midway, over the Ward river and past Surgalstown before turning left at Kilsallaghan. Taking another left at Thornton Hall, we head right, down a lane by Rath Farm and across the border into County Meath. We take a left at the T-junction which brings us down to the old N2 - a busy road so extra caution is required as we go straight across and out towards Kilbride. We take a right at Muckerstown Road and head back over the M2. We continue left in the direction of Ashbourne, just stopping short of Nine Milestone for refreshments at 'The Donkey Shed' in Newbarn Farm. Please bring your COVID-19 vaccine certificate if possible to avail of indoor seating.
Suitably refreshed, we head down through Coolquay and take a left at the roundabout, continuing around the Ward to Broughan Lane, Dunsoghly Castle and Newtown Cottages before retracing our steps back along St. Margaret's Road, past Hampton Wood and around the rear of IKEA to our start/finish point.

Cycling 5 years in Fingal & a few holidays across Europe - most recently the Moselle wine valley & Bavarian Brewery Bike tour! In 2018, I took up the Cycling Ireland #2828challenge which led me to joining a club and completing a handful of sportives over the last year. Still learning and still enjoying the leisurely aspect whilst sharing a common interest, with new friends, plenty of coffee, cake and ice-cream!
